With the publication “The most beautiful buildings 1975-2000”, the Swiss Heritage Society presents selected buildings from all over Switzerland: Churches, bridges, parks, museums and housing estates. Celebrated icons, but also previously little-known buildings. They are all representative of the diversity of building culture in the last quarter of the 20th century.
Some of the Swiss building culture that emerged between the end of the boom years and the turn of the millennium is characterised by extraordinary qualities. To date, it has hardly been scientifically analysed and only a few individual cases have been inventoried. At the same time, the entire building stock is currently undergoing an immense transformation process, which all too often results in demolition. An entire generation of buildings is in danger of disappearing before their value has been recognised. The “Baukultur 1975-2000” campaign draws attention to the qualities of this period and supports the professional discourse.
With the publication “The most beautiful buildings 1975-2000”, the Swiss Heritage Society is launching the third element of the campaign. The 50 buildings from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and engineering are presented with informative texts and high-quality photographs and placed in the context of the time.
Baukultur 1975-2000 needs attention: the new publication complements the two online elements of the campaign that have already been published: the successful Instagram channel @archimillennials and the web platform heimatschutz.ch/1975-2000, which shows around 100 individual properties and will be supplemented by several tours next year.
