photoSCHWEIZ 2025 will take place from Friday, 7 February to Tuesday, 11 February 2025 at the Kongresshaus. 252 photographers – carefully selected by a jury of experts from hundreds of applications – will be showing their work from the past year. This year’s photoSchweiz 2025 will once again provide a high-quality and comprehensive overview of the Swiss photography scene. The event is not only an important occasion for the exhibitors, but is also regularly very well attended – well over 20,000 visitors have attended in recent years. This year there are likely to be even more at the centrally located Kongresshaus.

One of the editors of the WüstundWüst magazine, Werner Mäder, who is an ambitious photographer, is once again taking part this year. With his photographic triptych ‘Clotheslines – Italy’s icons’, he has taken on a theme typical of Italy. He writes about his work: ‘Clotheslines are as much a part of Italy as gelati, pizza, pasta and espresso.’

He continues: ‘You can find them everywhere – between Sicily and Milan. And as icons go, they have been photographed millions of times. I found three of them in Venice that fit together so well as a photographic triptych that they form a new virtual, confusing and surreal washing line. It thus stands for all of Italy’s washing lines.’ The images in this post are from this series.

About photoSCHWEIZ

photoSCHWEIZ is the largest and most renowned photography exhibition in Switzerland. Since 2005, more than 250 photographers have shown their work there every year, providing art enthusiasts with a representative overview of photographic work in our country. The event has become an annual fixture in the photography scene as a place to present, exchange ideas, learn more or simply be inspired.

The curation team is made up of award-winning creative director and advertising agency owner Chris Burkhard, award-winning photographer and film director Aurélia Marine, new media curator, juror and entrepreneur Lidia Panio and – last but not least – long-standing curator Daniel Bolliger. With their diverse professional and artistic CVs, they unite the most diverse aspects of contemporary photography and bring fresh perspectives and a trained eye for the essentials.

photoSCHWEIZ writes about the importance of photography in our society on its website: ‘The camera is the tool used by photographers to use light and shadow to illuminate the issues that are close to their hearts. Their works have the power to depict complex themes in a visual and emotional way and to make viewers think. Photography brings different perspectives into focus, encourages dialogue on cultural, political and environmental issues and captures stories and events for future generations.’
